The Egyptian Patent Office announced an increase in patent examination fees in Egypt, effective 23 February 2017.

The cost for requesting a substantive examination of a patent application has increased from EGP 7,000 to EGP 17,530. The increase will apply to all applications requesting examination on or after 13 February 2017. The increase was a result of an Executive Decree, No.1 of 2017 issued by the President of the Academy of the Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT).

The last fee increase of this nature by the Egyptian Patent Office was in 2003, when the cost rose from EGP 2,000 EGP to EGP 7,000.
