We reported in April 2015 that significant official fee increases are to go into effect on 29 May 2015 in the United Arab Emirates for patent, design, copyright and trade mark transactions. In addition to the increases reported in the previous bulletin, it has now been communicated that the penalty for late payment of publication fees will increase from AED 50 (US$13.62) to AED 100 (US$27.25) per month (to a maximum of AED 1,000 (US$272.48)per year); and the penalty for late payment of registration fees will increase from AED 500 (US$136.24) to AED 1,000 (US$272.48) per month (to a maximum of AED 10,000 (US$2,724.48) per year). The penalties associated with the late filing of priority documents will be set at AED 500 (US$136.24) if filed within 90 days, and an additional AED500 (US$ 136.24) will be payable if filed outside of the initial 90 day late period.
