Cedar White Bradley (CWB) was honoured to deliver a workshop in Dubai to researchers and program managers at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) on intellectual property protection for plant varieties and agriculture-related technology.
Richard Gaugeler, a patent attorney, and Tamara El Shibib, a patent portfolio specialist, represented CWB at the workshop, which was held on Wednesday, 31 October 2018. Richard covered the basics of IP protection for plant varieties in the UAE. Tamara discussed technology innovations in the agriculture sector and patent commercialisation strategies.
Plant varieties are protected in the UAE under Law No. 17 of 2009. Those who wish to apply for a plant patent can submit their applications to the Ministry of Environment and Water in Abu Dhabi.
