Qatar has reportedly become the first GCC country to open a Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Receiving Office. This means that, in addition to Qatar being a designatable country under the PCT, it is now possible for nationals and residents of Qatar to file international applications under the PCT locally. Qatar has also adopted the ePCT system to ease the administration of these applications. The office was inaugurated at a two-day workshop presented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The workshop was attended by representatives from Qatar University, Qatar Foundation, Qatar Scientific Club, and Intellectual Property lawyers (The Peninsula Qatar,, accessed 15 July 2015).
