The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) adopted the 12th Edition of the Nice Classification of Goods and Services on November 5, 2023.
This edition brings amendments to certain class headings and explanatory notes, with the interesting addition of “humanoid robot” related goods and “downloadable digital files authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs)” in class 9. In class 45, the explanatory note has been updated further to clarify that the class covers “arbitration and mediation services”, “pet sitting, dog walking services” and, interestingly, “clothing rental”. The item “content moderation for internet chatrooms” has also been added to the class.
SAIP further noted that class headings can no longer be used to claim protection for all goods or services in that class.
